The Last 10 Books Tag + The Vincent Ehindero Blogger Award

Aaaah, it’s my first time being tagged on anything! Thanks again to the lovely Amy @ A Fangirl’s Opinion for tagging me in both of these! You should definitely go check out her blog for some amazing and fun bookish content. She’s also been nothing but kind and welcoming to me, so I’m really grateful she’s one of the first people I’ve encountered in this community! 💚

The Last 10 Books Tag

Last Book I Bought:

I don’t buy books that often, but the last ones I got were second-hand copies of Essential PreRaphaelites by Lucinda Hawksley and J.W. Waterhouse by Peter Trippi. I love the Pre-Raphaelites’ art (especially Waterhouse’s) and want to read more about them. Actually, I had been wanting to get my hands on those books for years, so when I finally found a good deal I couldn’t waste the opportunity.

Last Book I Re-Read:

Like everyone else on the book community I was overwhelmed by an urge to reread the Grishaverse books after watching Shadow & Bone. So my last re-read was Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

Last Book I Gave Up On:

I don’t usually DNF books (and if I do I don’t remember since I don’t log them on my goodreads), but I think the last one I just couldn’t get through was Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas… It was actually a reread to see if I had any interest in continuing the series. Turns out that I couldn’t even if I tried, hah!

I also started The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, which I’m still very excited to read, but I wasn’t in the mood for it at the time and I decided to put it aside for a bit.

Last Book I Said I Read But Didn’t:

Possibly Basil by Wilkie Collins. I was supposed to read it for my Victorian Literature module and I don’t know what happened but I started it and never finished it in time. By the time I noticed we had already moved on to other reading materials.

I actually finished reading it last year (3 years later!) and loved it. That’ll show me.

Last Book I Wrote in the Margins Of:

I’ve only ever written in the margins of books I’ve studied in class, otherwise I just can’t bring myself to do it. The last one must have been Macbeth by Shakespeare, and since I’m done with education that’ll likely be the last book I touched with a pencil.

Last Book That I Had Signed:

On the Other Side and All That She Can See, both by Carrie Hope Fletcher. I’ve never been to a book signing in Spain, mainly because they hardly happen where I live. But when I was studying abroad I had the opportunity to go meet Carrie and I loved the experience. 10/10 would go again.

Last Book I Lost:

I’m pretty sure I’ve never lost a book.

Last Book I Had to Replace:

Once again, I don’t think I’ve ever had to replace a book. I take really great care of all my books and even if I’ve read them many times they’re in pretty good condition. Some dust jackets can be slightly torn (very very slightly, it’s almost non-noticable), but that’s about the extent of the damage.

Last Book I Argued Over:

Gosh, I remember me and my friend used to argue extensively about the love interests in Delirium by Lauren Oliver. But that was many many years ago and it was just us being silly (although my preference was obviously the right choice, duh). Nowadays, I try to avoid as many arguments as I possibly can.

Last Book You Couldn’t Find:

Like I said, I’ve never lost a book. However, as I mentioned, I couldn’t find J.W. Waterhouse in stores for years (at least not at an affordable price), and it wasn’t until this year that I finally bought it.

Amy’s Questions

Which characters life would you most like to live?

Blue Sargent’s from The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. I think that’s the right amount of risk I’m willing to live through, choosing anything more than that willingly just sounds like masochism. I love Blue and her little group of weird raven boys. Plus her life is filled with magic and she has a great family, so I’ll take it.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

“Fake it till you make it.”

I don’t know who said this to me or where I heard it from, but it’s done wonders for me. I know this kind of advice doesn’t work for everyone but it certainly did for me.

List one thing that’s on your bucket list?

Going to Korea and Japan with my core group of friends. We’ve spoken about this many times, and it’s something we know we’ll do eventually. But first we need for the situation to get better aaand money, so it’s probably still going to be awhile until we finally get to go.

What’s your favourite animal? (I changed this question slightly, sorry Amy)

Dogs! It’s probably because we’ve always had dogs at home so I’m used to them and I understand them more than other animals (cats remain a mystery I’m too scared to dive into). Right now we have three dogs and they’re just so much fun to play with or simply observe.

And finally, what’s one fictional item you wish you had?

This was hard to think about. I recently finished All of Us Villains by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman and I would love to have the magic-infused rings and necklaces. This is me basically saying I want to have magical powers, but oh well.

My questions

  1. What language would you like to be fluent in?
  2. What book has had a great impact on you as a person?
  3. Who is your favourite singer/band?
  4. Is there a book you love but rarely talk about?
  5. What is your favourite holiday?

I tag

Don’t feel obligated to do them both (or any, for that matter) but I would love to get to know all of you better so it’d be lovely if you did!

I LOVED reading your answers, and I agree Blue’s life has the perfect amount of adventure and she has some of the best friends and family! Korea and Japan are also on my bucket list, so fingers crossed things get better soon! ✨
