2022 Reading Wishes

I talked about reading goals and pressure in December where I mentioned I don’t necessarily enjoy setting hard goals for reading, as I don’t like feeling pressure with this hobby. However, I do have some wishes—for lack of a better word—of where I’d like to take my reading.

In 2022 I’d like to dedicate some time to reading more books outside of what I usually go for as well as focus on tackling my physical TBR. So, I’ve made a list of what types of books I’d like to take the time to explore. The goal would be to read 5 books per each of these categories—some books do fall into more than one of them—but if I can’t accomplish that, it’s okay as long as I’ve read at least one of each.

I will now go over some ideas of books I’d like to get to. None of these listed below are obligatory reads but rather some inspiration of what I have in mind as of writing this. I would really appreciate if you could leave me some recommendations of books you think I would like.

Non-fiction books

In the past two years I’ve found myself gravitating more towards this genre of literature, and I’m excited to read more of it. Although I’m open to anything that sounds appealing—I really enjoy interesting biographies—I’m especially interested in picking up books on both fashion and art history. In terms of art history, I would like to dive deeper into the Pre-Raphaelites—a topic that, if you’ve been following me for a while, you know I absolutely adore—but also I’d like to read some more on erotic art, especially photography. Now, some of this books have little text and many pictures, but I think I’ll count them just the same, as I want to keep a record of everything I read.

Classics

By classics I mean both old classics and modern classics. This, alongside non-fiction, might be the easiest to accomplish, as I’ve been progressively reading more classics every year. My list of classics I’d eventually like to get to is extremely long, so here’s only a sample of the ones that I’ve been more interested in lately.

Books originally not written in English

This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. I rarely read translated fiction, which is a read shame, but as of lately I’ve been more and more inspired to delve into it. I also would like to read some Spanish and Catalan titles, since those are my mother tongues and I very rarely read books written here.

Books from my physical TBR

This is the section I’m most intimidated by. My physical TBR is by no means huge, but I do struggle to read books that have been sitting on it for a while, as I always gravitate towards my newer, shinier acquisitions. Some of this I’ve already read a good part of and all I need to do is finish them, so let’s hope 2022 is the year for that!

What are some book you’d like to get to in 2022? Have you read any of the ones I mentioned? Don’t forget to leave me your recommendations!

  1. Ooooh, your physical TBR looks very promising, Maria! 😍 I’m dying for yoir thoughts on all of these (but especially A Little Life 🤗)!

As for your other goals/wishes, I’m not going to say too much, since I plan to talk about my own 2022 goals next week – but let’s just say that apart from actively trying to read more non-fiction, we have quite a bit of overlap! (If you’re looking for some biography suggestions, though, I’d highly recommend My Place by Sally Morgan! She’s an Australian artist (though art doesn’t play much of a role in the book, I’m afraid) and explores her Aboriginal roots in the book. It’s not very well known, but I love it so much that I thought I’d put it out there just in case someone sees this and decides to give it a try 😁🤗)

    1. Actually, I’ve read about half of A Little Life, and so far I’ve truly enjoyed it. However, I haven’t been in the mood to continue for a while, but I’m sure I’ll love the rest of it just as much.

Can’t wait to read your post!! I’ll definitely check My Place out, it sounds really interesting and like something I could totally enjoy. Thank you for the recommendation!

  2. I loved seeing what your reading wishes for the new year are! 😊 I also hope to read more books from my physical TBR, especially those that have been there for such a long time 😅 I’m also trying to read more nonfiction, as I’ve found that I enjoy reading it from time to time 🥰
